Glendale commuters who drive Loop 101 and Grand Avenue could see upgraded highways, plus improvements to major streets in the city, if the governor and state lawmakers work out a deal to allow Maricopa County residents to vote on their own transportation tax.
The countywide half-cent sales tax, called Proposition 400, funds much of metro Phoenix’s streets, highways and public transit services. It’s been in effect since county voters first approved it in 1985 and reapproved it in 2004. If mayors had their way, voters would’ve had the chance to extend it again in 2022, but there was an unexpected caveat.
