Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s massive economic investment in Arizona is about to get much bigger.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing originally said it would invest $12 billion in the complex on a campus that spans nearly two miles by one mile, but the company marked the occasion by announcing it would more than triple its investment to $40 billion.

Executives from some of TSMC’s most visible suppliers and customers attended the late morning and early afternoon event at the complex near 43rd Avenue and West Dove Valley Road. The dignitaries included Apple CEO Tim Cook, who said he looked forward to expanding his company’s work with TSMC, which supplies chips for some of Apple’s popular products such as iPhones and Macs.
