The Glendale Municipal Airport — which has more expenses than revenue — is looking to develop more than 100 acres on site in an effort to become financially self-sufficient.

When Matt Smith was brought on as the new airport administrator earlier this fall, plans to expand were being mapped out. City Manager Kevin Phelps, upon announcing Smith’s arrival, noted the city is getting “ready to aggressively pursue expansion and development of our airport and the surrounding area.”

Specifically, plans are targeting 100 acres just east of the airport — currently undeveloped city property — to attract a developer with an eye toward some industrial or commercial properties.
