Local developer is moving forward with plans for a large sports park, just east of the Loop 101 & Northern Avenue.

A West Valley developer is expanding his plans to create a sports complex in Glendale, which he expects to include field hockey, pickleball, basketball, volleyball, a shooting range and other types of developments including a hotel.

Tony Mangat, CEO of Mangat Group, has owned the land west of Loop 101 and north of Glendale Avenue for years, and has begun the process of creating a mixed-use development.

He has sold portions of the land to developers to create an apartment complex and a medical office campus. The Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the rezoning for the project and Mangat is working with the city on the next steps in the permitting process.

“My goal is to be finished with it before (Glendale hosts the NCAA) Final Four,” Mangat said of the development.

State Farm Stadium, on the other side of the freeway, will host the Final Four in 2024.
